Pakistan: Opposition's no-confidence vote blocked

After the no-confidence motion was stopped by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan asked the President to dissolve the Parliament and hold elections.

The Deputy Speaker termed the move unconstitutional and said that it was part of a conspiracy by "foreign powers" to interfere in Pakistan's democratic process.

The opposition, which had been hoping to oust Prime Minister Khan, lost all hope. Opposition leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said the joint opposition would file a petition in the Supreme Court against the move. Imran Khan has filed a petition in the courts seeking a life ban on these individuals. No Prime Minister in the history of Pakistan has completed his five-year term to date.

The Information Minister said that Imran Khan's cabinet has been dissolved.

On the advice of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the President of Pakistan has dissolved the National Assembly. The attempt of the opposition to remove the Prime Minister has been thwarted. President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi has approved the advice of the Prime Minister, a statement issued from his office said that new elections will be held within 90 days.

Bilawal has announced to file a petition in the court against blocking the vote

Opposition leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the joint opposition will file a petition in the Supreme Court against the move to block the no-confidence vote. Voting does not take place. He added that we are contacting the Supreme Court on this violation.
